Next, you need to know what is the proper temperature of keeping a tropical fish in water, and also test the ph levels and hardness of water and look for the presence of any toxins in the water. All this can be acquired by you reading up on books and also doing research on the Internet.

Another cause of concern would be the risk of disease striking your tropical fish. A common disease is white spot that caused by a parasite named ‘ick’. If a tropical fish is infected with this disease, you can notice that they will start to show white spots on their scales, which causes irritations to the fish. If you see the fish rubbing them against objects as well as plants that it is a sure sign that it has become infected with ‘ick’. Once you notice your tropical fish showing signs of being infected, you need to treat them immediately; since if left untreated, it could easily kill the fish in a matter of a few days and it can also spread to the remaining fish as well. And, you will also need to treat your tank in case even one fish gets affected.

In case white spot is detected the fish tank has to be cleaned along with the stones and plants. Water should necessarily be changed and checked for the levels of ph. One of the preventive measures you can take on the onset of white spot among your tropical fish would be to quarantine any new fish for at least two days before letting them into your fish tank. In addition, it is also necessary to keep the water quality high and give your tropical fish a proper and balanced diet.

It is also advisable not to give your tropical fish too much food to eat as it can result in the water getting polluted harming your fish. It is just enough that the fish are given sufficient food for survival and good health, and different fish may require different foods.
